Gearing up for “Alien Metals”

Well I got some great support from East West Sounds and my Pianos are now working (it takes a while for the 20,000 samples to load up but it’s worth it).

I’m moving ahead with this project in-spite of the fact that there is still a fair amount left to learn about the new software. (I’m learning as I go OK).

So here I sit in a Starbucks drinking a coffee and staring down the barrel of a new CD, “Alien Metals”. I’ve got a few ideas but nothing solid yet. I’ve been so absorbed by the new technology of  my new studio, I’ve haven’t had much room or time for music writing. It’s like I’ve been so busy sharpening the sword I forgot how to use it (I’m sure it will all come back to me).

I have experimented with style modulation and style fusion in the past. I’ve had some success but it’s a double-edged sword. Although you can appeal to a wider audience you can easily have the opposite  effect.

With every CD I try to push my own envelops and strive to travel beyond my own musical borders.  But in doing this sometimes the process can override the goal.  You get so into riding the bus you forget we’re you’re going. (Being a guitar and computer nerd doesn’t help).  So now and again you need to review and restructure your goals.

When I stated out with music, I was very much into exploring and going to other musical worlds. Discover, curiosity and innate passion to understand how things work. Well now I’m still learning and my borders have expanded. I just need to calm down and go to work. So here I go ….
